The benefits of yoga for mental and physical health issues.
A recent reports suggests that yoga has significant beneifits for both mental and physical health issues. The report states that within the research yoga was assessed for;
- depressive and anxiety disorders
- insomnia and
- low back pain.
For all the above conditions yoga was demonstrated to be beneficial but with out significant adverse events.
Interestingly compared with usual care, yoga improved short-term depressive symptoms but effects varied substantially across studies. Yoga was also more effective than relaxation and aerobic exercise. Long-term effects on depressive symptoms were reported infrequently, as were other outcomes such as remission rates and health-related quality of life.
