Ahed Therapies - Our Treatments

Our Treatments

Psychiatric treatments in Cardiff .

We are a multidisciplinary team. Our approach is that of guiding an individual / person, on the road to recovery enabling  you to be able to master and control your emotions.  We assist and empower the person by an empathic, individualised, tailor made, holistic approach. We build upon and develop the individual’s positive attributes to self mastery with our help.  This involves from early on, an understanding the person’s specific values, desires, aims and objectives constantly ensuring a mutually agreed approach to recovery.

The holistic approach  includes medical, pharmacological use of medications; only where appropriate, at the correct dose, for the right condition and for the appropriate duration. Practically we use medications only when really necessary, for medications only treat the symptoms and do not address the underlying causes.

Psychological  treatment provided by our multi-disciplinary team can be eclectic calling upon the range of psychological interventions available using  a particular psychological technique. The psychological techniques that are available can address the underlying causes and include:

  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TFCBT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT)

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing

  • EMDR, Meridian Energy Therapy

  • Transactional Analysis

  • The Three Phased Model for Treatment of Complex Psychological Trauma.

What to expect when you see a psychiatrist

If you are unsure what to expect when consulting a psychiatrist then please be reassured. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specialises in mental health. Many individuals are unsure what to expect when seeing a psychiatrist.

At Ahed Therapies all our patients have an initial assessment with a psychiatrist which normally takes around an hour. During this initial assessment the psychiatrist will discuss with you various matters including:

  • Current mental state
  • Background
  • Previous psychiatric history
  • Family psychiatric history
  • Medical history
  • Current  medications
  • Drug and alcohol history
  • Current social circumstances

All of the above information will assist the psychiatrist to diagnosis your condition and consider what treatment options are available. In some complex cases an hour may not be long enough to achieve all this and you will be offered another appointment to complete the assessment.

We  encourage you, if you want, to come with a friend or family member who knows you well.  Often the views of close friends and family can be an invaluable source when trying to get a clear picture of what is wrong and how we can best help you.

We offer support and treatments for a wide variety of conditions , some of which are listed in the column on the left of this page. This does not cover all of the conditions we provide support for, so if you are experiencing other issues please do still contact us.
